Needles: US 7
Gauge: 22 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch

When Melinda of Tess' Designer Yarns asked me if I wanted to collaborate on a design for her new yarn, Linguini, I immediately jumped at the chance. Tess' is quite possibly my favorite yarn out there - I discovered it at Stitches West a couple of years ago (that yarn ended up becoming Safire) and since then, it's been the special yarn I buy when I want a real treat.

What Melinda's yarn and my sketching became is Aurelia, a simple a-line shell with a little bit of a nautical feel. It is knit from the bottom up in one piece until the front and back are split. I loved how the yarn looked in garter stitch, so the armholes and collar are bordered with it. The collar extends into little ties that are shaped with short rows.

The length is long (but this is easily modified if you prefer a shorter garment) to give it a modern feel and because I liked the idea of the garter stripes at the bottom peeking out from beneath a jacket.

And the yarn is gorgeous. (Seriously. No one paid me to say that.) It's smooth and easy to knit with and drapes beautifully. The fabric it creates is fantastic for warmer weather garments and, I think, it looks super fancy.

I'm self-publishing the pattern here and it is also available on the Tess' Yarns website. And if you happen to be going to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival later this week, you can say hello to Aurelia in person in the Tess' booth!

I just stumbled upon this pattern through a link from one of your 2012 patterns - Caeles. When I saw the name of this pattern, I gasped. In May 2010 (just after this pattern was released) I had my first daughter and named her Aurelia. I will be purchasing this lovely pattern and hope to make Aurelias for both my Aurelia and for me. (for the record, we don't have any other matching outfits, this would be the first) I hope I can downsize the pattern for a toddler, I'll let you know!!!
